Sometimes that’s the case. I never responded to medication. I do have another suggestion. I had depression and anxiety for many years and it turned out to be a symptom of celiac disease. It’s an autoimmune disease where your intestines are damaged by antibodies when you eat gluten. Because your intestines are so damaged, they can’t use the serotonin in your body (most of which is located in your digestive tract). When I started eating a gluten free diet, my depression and anxiety were gone almost immediately. It’s super common, about 1 in 100 have celiac disease and about 1 in 7 have another type of gluten intolerance. You should consider taking a sublingual (under the tongue) vitamin b12 supplement. This often plays a part in depression and if it’s under the tongue, it can bypass your intestines. Let me know if you have any questions.
For me to give you a definitive on that would be irresponsible. All I can tell you is that from my experience, it took a good 15 medications ( and/or) combinations to go through before I found the right ones. But I was told by my Dr. that some people are just a bit harder to treat. I think also part of healing involves some sort of talk therapy, or behavioural therapy (CBT). And of course exercise and a proper diet. It can be a long tough road, I won’t lie to you. But there are new medications coming out all the time, and you just gotta keep experimenting. We are all made up so differently. The medications I take, have been disasters for others.
Journal, get outside, find ways to deal with your anxiety. Coping mechanisms for now. Life is not easy, but there is still that chance that he can become much easier. The question is if you want to keep searching.
I personally like The Mayo Clinic as a resource site. Perhaps you will find some answers here?!
I wish you all the best!

First of all, I assume you’re seeing a qualified psychologist, and not simply trying things that you find on the streets.
I’m not a doctor, but I also have depression, and have done quite a bit of reading about the illness and its treatments.
Medication for mental health is a very touchy subject, and all the things that they know about it are still very new. For MANY MANY people, it takes a very long time finding an effective combination of drugs and dosages. Of course, that’s not easy to deal with when you’re in the middle of a severe phase of depression. These medications also can take a very long time to become effective.
To add to all of this, there really aren’t any mental health drugs that have been developed specifically for teenagers or children, so it is even more difficult to find effective treatment for someone your age.
My advice: be patient, be patient, be patient. I know that’s not easy when you’re suffering. Make sure you trust your doctor to do what’s right (even though many things “won’t work” when you try them). Consider going to therapy in addition to taking medications.
It took me over three years to find a medical combination that was even remotely effective. It’s been five years now, and we’re still tweaking dosages to find the MOST effective combination.
Also, when you’re feeling most depressed, remember to NEVER give up. If you ever feel like harming yourself, tell someone who cares about you right away, especially your parents. Much of my depression comes because my father committed ******* when I was very young.
No matter how depressed you feel and how worthless you feel, people value you and would be incredibly hurt if you harmed yourself.
There are always people who can help you, even if it’s just an ear to talk to, or a shoulder to cry on.
Good luck.
Yes there are times when antidepressants don’t work, it is called treatment resistant depression and what they will do is try other pills for depression of which there are way more than three. There are older drugs called MAOIs and tricyclics which work well but the reason they aren’t more popular is because they cause a bad reaction when mixed with certain other drugs and foods, and these reactions can kill you in some cases. Then they can go to an antipsychotic drug to help the antidepressant work better which would usually be the drugs Geodon or Abilify. They are getting execellent results from this approach. When all else fails they can give you electroshoock treatments which work for 80% of people who try it. There are other treatments that are being created right now and the treatments for depression is only going to get better and better.
God can help you live a better life if you want Him to. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end — time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God’s blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can’t explain the world’s natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner’s prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: “Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.” I’m Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could try out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group to learn about God’s will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life and have a Christian church pray for you.
